Songs of the Hajj
(Tahlīl)
   Traditional Islamic songs, approved by juridical Islamic treatises, sung at the departure of pilgrims and at various places in or near Mecca. They may be entirely choral or solo songs with choral refrain. In Egypt, shawms (mismār) and drums (tabl baladī) may accompany them.
